Day 5 of our 15 day Journeys cruise, and what a day. Not a sea day, and not a port day. We went through the Panama Canal and it took basically all day. I have many pictures of the locks, but I am not sure what some are, so if there isn’t any description it is just part of the lock equipment/facility. Many pictures are blurry because it was raining a lot and the windows I took them through were salty and rain streaked. The best part was that the naturalist/historian Daniel Gohstand, spent a good amount of time exclusively with Dave, describing what we were passing. Dave was so happy.

We went on a 17-day cruise through the Panama Canal. Daniel had at least one session nearly every day. After the first one we attended, we tried to go to as many of his lectures as we could. We really enjoyed the combination of nature, regional information, photography, his personal experiences, and humor.

Dear Daniel,
We just left the Miracle in Dover. We thoroughly enjoyed our 12 days to Iceland. What a beautiful country.
While on the ship, they had hired a naturalist to entertain our sea days. We enjoyed her presentations but it wasn’t as entertaining as yours. We have been following your posts during your Alaskan cruise and are hoping our paths will cross again. We so appreciate your lectures and miss your incredible mixture of humor and artistic capturing of real life facial features.
Until we meet again, Lilly and I will be keeping a close eye on your next lecture series. Please keep in touch with itineraries of upcoming contracts so we can coordinate our future bookings.

Daniel is sincere, kind, and communicates his ideas and concepts very well. His approach portrays confidence and trust. It is very difficult to “enter” Indigenous communities as an outsider, and many organizations/people have had poor results. But Daniel has developed a solid, productive relationship with the community due to his demeanor and approach.
He adjusts to the scene extremely well whether it is an impoverished village, or a banquet or presentation with wealthy, educated movers and shakers. I would certainly recommend him as a guest speaker on your finest ships.
