The first time ImageSails’ Founder Daniel Gohstand entered the Cathedral in Santa María de Jesús, Guatemala, he was awed and inspired by the wave of color and spirit. In subsequent years, the generosity of the people there allowed him to create images that communicate the deep kindness and dignity of their community.

Determined to honor their friendship, and seeing first-hand that the town was in great need of medical care, he started a personal project, Doctors for Santa María de Jesús. This expanded into a determined effort to support the community in any way possible. A portion of proceeds from ImageSails and danielphoto.com funds doctors’ visits, and supports a variety of causes; the money goes directly to those who need it, in the way they need it most. Additionally, Daniel invites fellow Artists and Educators to visit the town to share their talents with the community. 

“We were able to remodel a building here and bring two medical teams to the community with the support of my Mother and a dear friend,” says Daniel. “It’s always been a dream of mine to form an art school for children here, uniting artists and musicians with the youth of the town, sharing that creative joy and inspiring generations.

“I’m greatly disturbed by the impact corporate sailmakers have had on our efforts. They have devastated our ability to support this community and people here in need. It’s shameful, but rest assured, we’re fighting back through our patents. Their conduct has been hurtful to me and my artistry, but when they started affecting our altruistic commitment to this town that’s so dear to me, the gloves came off,” Daniel says earnestly.
